Australian Biathlon Season 2015 -  the best

2015 has had the most successful start in many years, with three camps involving over 40 biathletes. These were held at Mt Hotham, the site of the only biathlon range in Australia.

Australian Biathlon is very proud to have hosted the first-ever IBU-IOC Development Camp in Australia. Athletes aged 15-23 and coaches from Australia and New Zealand participated in this inaugural event, headed by Coach Kari Korpela (SWE), who is a member of the IBU’s prestigious Technical Committee.

The intensive program included up to two on-snow ski sessions per day, technical analysis, range practice, endurance training and other outdoor sessions. Training included a “soccer on skis” session, and ended with a fun Sprint competition on the final day of skiing. In addition there were evening training sessions, which included analysis with the Scatt training system.

The second camp is the international camp headed by Y/JWCH Coach Luca Bormolini, who has brought several European athletes out with him to train at Mt Hotham for several weeks.

The third camp is the annual “PC Camp”, headed by Paul Connor, a feature of the Australian Season for several years. The ten participants especially enjoyed the night skiing – many thanks to Mt Hotham for switching on the lights!

The fourth camp for Australian Biathlon Season 2015 is the Australian Defence Nordic Camp at Mt Hotham in August, where 80 personnel will strap on the skinny skis for two weeks of Nordic action.
